Survey Analysis

We created a survey which we would use to help us create the best film opening we could for our coursework.
Our introduction was:
Hi there, this is Eve, Chloe, Lucy and Josh's AS Media questionnaire. There are a few multiple choice questions that we would like you to answer to help us with our research for our coursework. This will only take a minute or two.
Our 'plot' is that a victim will be followed by a psychopath to, ideally, an abandoned building. The genre of our story is 'Slasher', which contains blood and gore.
Thank you in advance for taking the time to answer the questions that we have prepared for you.

And we had 10 questions which consisted of:

We posted it onto social media, needing at least 80 responses. We got over 100, and these were the results.
The responses show that the majority of our audience will be 15-17 year olds. This means that the ideal age for our film would be a 15, but this doesn't conform to slasher films as they are usually rated 18, so I think our film should be rated 18.

The most popular option for our location is an abandoned building/buildings, but this unfortunately wouldn't work for our group as the building we were originally going to use is unavailable to film in. However the next most popular option is natural settings, which is great for our group as in our location scouting we found a brilliant natural, rural place in Loose which would fit with out genre and be easily accessible and look professional and effective.

The most popular time period chosen by our audience was present, which is convenient as this will be the easiest for us to film with a limited budget, limited equipment and a short amount of time.

The most popular age for our victim is 18-24, but I think that they should be the second most popular option of 15-17 as this means we can use one of us in the group to be the victim which will be easier and more reliable.

The 5 sounds to use in our opening in order of descending popularity are: footsteps, heavy breathing, crackling (like a TV broken signal), screams and dripping. These fit really well with our genre, concept and location as we'll be filming by a stream so dripping will be appropriate, and we already decided to use footsteps, heavy breathing and screams. I'm also sure we can fit in the crackling to create a creepy and sinister effect, but this is the only one that may not fit.

The most popular option for whether or not there should be dialogue in the opening was some, which is good as we don't think heavy dialogue will probably not sound as professional or scary as just a bit.

The most popular option for where the film title should appear is the start, but I think the most effective place will be at the end with our concept. However we can see how both look, but I think the best will be at the end.

Casual/everyday is the most popular outfit choice for the characters, which is convenient as this will be easiest and most effective for us to use.

The audience think the victim should be partly aware of the killer, which is perfect as I think this will then have the best amount of suspense and tension.

The most popular option for what type of character the killer should be is a man, which is convenient as this fits with our concept.

Our final question which had the option to specify another answer had the following responses:

Some of these answers weren't serious, but there were some interesting ideas left, such as 'some kind of costume the psycho creates like a mask made of dead faces (as an example)', 'someone who appears normal but is actually crazy', 'respected professional' and 'psychopath'. I think we could include one or more of these ideas in our opening, as they would add an individual twist into it.
