Editing Practical Task: Different Perceptions

For this practical task we were asked to take a video clip and edit it. I chose to take a video clip of a moon rising and then add different non-diegetic music on top of the video to change the perception of the video.

'Scary' Moon Edit

First of all, I imported the video of the moon onto iMovie.

The next step was to remove the sound that already existed in the video. To do this, I clicked on the video in the bottom screen and then clicked on the option to 'detach audio'.

Once the audio was detached, I then highlighted the sound and then deleted it. The original video now had no sound.

Next, I added in the sound effect 'Mystery'. Due to the sound effect being too short for the video, I slowed the sound down. This worked out well as the sound then sounded sinister and dramatic, which was the effect that I was aiming for.

The final step was to upload the video to YouTube.

'Casual' Moon Edit

My next video was changing the theme of the video clip from scary to a more casual/everyday theme. I did this by importing the original video into iMovie again.

I then removed the original sound and deleted it the same way I did for the first video.

Next I added in the 'Crickets' sound effect to give a more casual and normal theme for my video.

Due to the sound effect being a lot shorter than the video, I added in duplicates of the sound effect so that the crickets ran throughout the entire video.

The final stage was to upload the video to YouTube.
