Practical Task- Practising making a wound
To practise making a wound I decided to use cotton wool, to be an alternative to latex as I didn't have any and it can be hard to find and some can be costly. I stuck the cotton wool down onto my hand using PVA glue. I stuck cotton wool on both sides of my hand to look as though it could be a cut or opened wound.
Next I added foundation to the cotton wool so that it would match my skin colour and therefore make it look more realistic. This was really difficult to do and didn't look as effective as I would have hoped as it was quite 3D. I would use a thinner layer of cotton wool when doing it in the future.
The next thing I did to make my wound look more realistic was add eyeshadow and a variety of different lipstick colours to make it look as though it was also bruised which would help it look more realistic.
I added cotton wool to the centre of the wound. I then added the fake blood into the centre of the cotton wool to make it look like an open cut that it still bleeding. The cotton wool absorbed this well to make it look as though it had begun to scab over and clot, but was still bleeding as well. I added fake blood around the edges of the cut as well to make it look more realistic.
Overall I think that this didn't look very realistic as it was very 3D as I added too much cotton wool to the edges of the wound therefore it was too thick. This made it look more fake. I thought that the fake blood was really effective though and worked really well absorbing into the cotton wool, giving it a darker colour, and directly onto the skin which made it look like a lighter colour and more of a fresh cut.
